What we collect when you use SearchMyGuide, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it.

Last updated October 15, 2026

Draft. The highlighted terms are waiting on a business decision, and this page stays out of search engines until every one of them is set. It is not a published policy yet.

1.Who we are

SearchMyGuide is run by [company legal name], a company registered in [country of incorporation] at [registered address]. We are the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at privacy@searchmyguide.com.

2.What we collect

Your account: name, email address and a password we store only as a hash. Your bookings: what you booked, when, how many guests and what you paid. If you are a guide: your licence number and the identity documents a person on our team checks. Messages you send us. Technical logs — address, browser, pages requested — kept for security.

We do not collect card numbers. Payments are handled by Stripe, and the card never reaches us.

3.Why we use it

To take and honour bookings, which is the contract between you and the guide. To verify guides, which the law and our own duty of care require. To keep the site secure and to send the emails a booking needs — confirmation, reminders, receipts. We do not profile you, and we send marketing only if you ask for it.

If you start a reservation and do not finish it, we send one reminder that the seats are still available. You can switch this off in your notification settings.

4.Cookies

We set the cookies that keep you signed in and keep forms safe, and nothing that follows you around the web. The cookie policy lists every one, and lets you change your choice.

We count visits to each part of the site without recording who made them. When you are signed in we note when your account was last active and each time you sign in, to keep accounts secure. If you allow analytics, we also record which parts of the site you open while signed in. Both are kept for thirteen months.

5.Who sees it

The guide you book with sees your name, your party size and the date — what they need to run the experience, and nothing more. Stripe processes payment. Resend delivers our email. Railway and Neon host the site and its database. Nobody else, and we never sell it.

6.How long we keep it

Your account, for as long as it is open. Booking records, for as long as financial record-keeping law in [country of incorporation] requires. Security logs, for thirty days.

7.Your rights

You can export everything we hold about you, and delete your account, from your account's security page, without asking us. You can also ask us to correct something, or object to a use, at privacy@searchmyguide.com. If you think we have got it wrong, you can complain to the data protection authority in [country of incorporation].

8.Changes

When this policy changes we update the date at the top, and for anything that affects you materially we tell you by email before it takes effect.
